Basic radiation protection course (In english)

This course is conducted in English and is intended for those who require approval as a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO/SBK), as well as others who are exposed to radiation from radioactive or X-ray sources in their work.

It is a legal requirement that individuals performing the role of Radiation Protection Officer have basic knowledge of ionizing radiation and radiation protection—and you can acquire that knowledge with us!

The course is approved by the Danish Health Authority as meeting the requirements for Radiation Protection Officers regarding basic radiation protection training within research, education, and industrial use.

Furthermore, the course meets the Danish Health Authority’s requirements for basic radiation protection training for radiation-exposed workers within industrial applications, research, and the inspection, servicing, and processing of sealed radioactive sources, facilities, devices, and equipment. See more on the Danish Health Authority’s website here.

Our Basic Radiation Protection Course covers a wide range of industries, and participants typically work in the energy and utilities sector, steel and scrap processing, the oil and gas industry, manufacturing and the food industry, pharmaceutical production, the veterinary field, NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material), defence, the fire service, customs, the police, and many other exciting areas!

You will receive an introduction to working safely with ionizing radiation. The course balances theoretical and practical learning and includes a course certificate.

The course provides the theoretical foundation for anyone acquiring, using, and storing certain types of open and sealed sources, as well as various types of X-ray equipment.

In addition, the course provides an overview of the key legal aspects you need to understand as a Radiation Protection Officer. However, please note that the course does not provide a comprehensive overview of all laws and regulations in this field, as that is beyond the scope of the course.

After completing this course, you will have a solid understanding of basic radiation protection, and it is a legal requirement that you maintain your knowledge, skills, and competencies in radiation protection. Dansk Strålebeskyttelse recommends participating in one of our shorter refresher courses approximately every five years. You can read more here.
