Basic radiation protection course in danish

Become approved as a Radiation Protection Officer and learn how to protect yourself and your colleagues.

It is a legal requirement that Radiation Protection Officer and all other persons who, in their work, are exposed to ionizing radiation from radioactive substances or X-ray equipment have documented knowledge of the associated risks and of proper protection.

In this course, you will receive an introduction to working safely with ionizing radiation. The course alternates pedagogically between theory and practice. You will receive a qualifying course certificate, which you can use as documentation in your application to be approved as a Radiation Protection Officer by the Danish Health Authority.

The course is approved by the Danish Health Authority as meeting all requirements for a course in basic radiation protection for Radiation Protection Officer and other radiation-exposed workers. See more on the Danish Health Authority’s website here.

Are you who we teach?

Our participants typically come from industries such as energy and utilities, steel and scrap processing, the oil and gas industry, manufacturing and the food industry, pharmaceutical production, the veterinary field, NORM, the defence sector, the fire service, customs, police, and similar.

This course is for you if you work with radiation, for example as:

  • Radiation Protection Officer
  • Health and safety representative
  • Operator, technician, engineer, or laboratory staff
  • Project manager, specialist, or QHSE manager responsible for safety or procedures

Regardless of industry, the purpose is the same: You must be able to work safely and take responsibility for radiation protection where you are.

You will meet others in the same situation as you – providing an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, build professional relationships, and develop networks across industries.

Participation in the course requires no special prerequisites – we start with the basics and build from there. So you do not need to worry about whether you can keep up. There is no final exam, but attendance is mandatory throughout the course. The course is passed through normal active participation in discussions and practical exercises.

The course provides the theoretical background for everyone who acquires, uses, and stores certain types of open and sealed sources as well as various types of X-ray equipment.

Naturally, the course provides an overview of the most important elements of the legislation that you must be familiar with as a Radiation Protection Coordinator. However, please note that you will not receive a complete overview of all laws and regulations in the field. That is beyond the scope of this course.

Training should be a good experience

That is why good catering is included in the price. It is an important part of a good course. The courses take place at the Sinatur Hotel Storebælt, where the catering consists of quality ingredients, so that throughout the day you are filled with plenty of energy, have greater ability to concentrate, and are ready to learn. All day you are welcome to help yourself to freshly brewed coffee, various types of tea, and still or sparkling water at the beverage station. Your catering includes a light breakfast and a delicious lunch buffet with a soft drink, and in the afternoon there is cake with your coffee.

In addition, you will work with Barium 137 in liquid form (open source). You will see various radioactive minerals and rock fragments from the mountains of Greenland and Norway.

After this course, you will have a solid grasp of basic radiation protection, and it is a legal requirement that you maintain your knowledge, skills, and competencies in radiation protection.
